Prop 39 Funding Workshop - October 10, 2013

SMC Energy Watch collaborated with the San Mateo County Office of Education to host this half-day session for superintendents, chief business officers, and facilities directors from K-12 public school districts in San Mateo County. Representatives from 20 out of the 23 districts attended. Attendees learned about the process of making school facilities more energy efficient and how to access Prop 39 funding for energy efficiency projects.

The workshop included a presentation from the California Energy Commission about the Prop 39 process, a presentation of the findings from SMC Energy Watch's energy benchmarking project, a panel discussion of energy auditors, a presentation about financing options beyond Prop 39, and case studies from school district facilities directors. Information included the importance of following the most cost effective “loading order” – implementing energy efficiency projects before sizing solar systems. During the workshop, attendees filled in a survey indicating areas where they need more information and/or assistance.
